Abbey CBS is part of the Northern Ireland Eco-schools Project The aim of the project is: Promoting sustainable living through whole-school action supported by learning resources, management tools and the internationally recognised Green Flag award scheme. It is our intention to have Green Flag by June 2017

Abbey CBS Eco-club Who are we? A mixture of students from all Year groups and teachers We are always looking of new volunteers We meet once a week in Mrs Mc Keever’s room

The Eco-club motto….. (check out our notice board outside the canteen!) Always be active, do something! Be aware of the impact you have on the environment. Believe in the power of action and change. Environmental awareness You can get involved Care for the environment Best to Reduce, Reuse and Recycle Sustainable action is needed

What do we do? We have 3 key targets: 1. Whole school recycling – this has already started and will continue throughout the school – blue bins, batteries, cartridges and clothes. 2. Outreach campaigns – working with the local community to help others – raising funds for local charities (Trocaire, Zambia), Migrant Crisis 3. Eco-garden – this will be up and running by June 2016 and will be maintained by the Eco-club with a little help from our friends!!

What are we currently working on? Please help us to care for our whole environment! Whole school recycling – please use the blue bins correctly We also collect batteries, clothes and ink jet cartridges for recycling. Please speak with Mrs Elmore, Mrs Mc Ginley and Mrs Mc Keever for more details We are selling ice cream to raise money to purchase more blue bins and set up an Eco-garden at the front of the school Fundraising for local charities – Trocaire and Zambia! If you want to get involved you are very welcome at our next meeting

The Eco-club empties your rubbish twice a week, please remember what goes into the blue bin!! Clean and dry paper – remove staples Plastic bottles with the lids removed Envelopes Cardboard IF THE BIN IS CONTAMINATED THE RUBBISH CANNOT BE RECYCLED!!!
