Recent Development Projects Approved in the Tahoe Basin without challenge from the League to Save Lake Tahoe This list is meant to illustrate the level of development activity in the Tahoe Basin. Inclusion in the list implies neither the League’s endorsement nor disapproval.

South Lake Tahoe Convention Center Stateline Area, South Lake Tahoe

South Lake Tahoe Convention Center City of South Lake Tahoe’s largest redevelopment project. A $420 million Convention Center – Hotel – Retail complex Approved by TRPA Governing Board May, As approved: two hotels with 477 rooms/condominiums, 50,000 sq. ft. convention center, and a collection of shops and restaurants. Construction stopped in Jan due to developer being unable to secure financing for the project.

Heavenly Village and Gondola

Heavenly Village & Gondola Completed in phases between 2000 to timeshares and suites, five stories tall Gondola allows mountain access from hotel area, reducing traffic to lifts. City of South Lake Tahoe paid $14 million for eminent domain acquisitions, redeveloping hotel rooms.

Lake Tahoe Resort (Embassy Suites, South Shore)

Lake Tahoe Resort Approved and built in the mid-1990s Project size: 29 acres Reduced hotel rooms by 250. Final hotel room count: 589. Restored 10 acres of coverage to create artificial wetlands Walking distance to restaurants and marina. Additional height was allowed due to environmental benefits.

Heavenly’s Tamarack Lodge

Built in 2010 – opened for ski season Linked to South Stateline lodging by gondola.

Tonopolo

Tonopolo Luxury Timeshare Approved in five-star town homes ranging in size from 1,800 to 3,100 sq. ft. consisting of bedroom units. A private gated timeshare community. Redevelopment on 2.5 acres of shorezone property in Tahoe Vista, CA. Construction destroyed ancient sand dunes.

Tahoe Beach Club Stateline, NV

Approved August Up to 143 condominium and town house units, 270 feet of private beach. Includes a private beach and club, restaurants, fitness center, snack bars, and all the amenities of a five-star hotel. Includes a stormwater treatment system that will prevent approx. 11,000 pounds of sediment from entering the Lake. Will restore 2 acres of stream and meadow habitat.

Sierra Shores South Lake Tahoe, CA

Approved in Timeshare development consisting of 16 three and four bedroom units, three stories tall, with detached garages. Located on 2 acres of lakefront property near Bijou Center in South Lake Tahoe.

Ski Run Center South Lake Tahoe, CA

Project completed around 2010, this one-story remodel incorporated Alpine architecture and BMPs. Preserved mountain views. Provides amenities within walking distance of several hundred hotel units at Lake Tahoe Resort.

Villas at Harborside Homewood, CA

Project approved Feb Consists of nine three-bedroom residential design timeshare units on approx. 2 acres on lakefront property. Included a special scenic mitigation plan.

Wyndham (Zephyr Cove)

Wyndham (also called WorldMark South Shore) 110 one-, two- and three-bedroom timeshare units with kitchens Pool, kids pool and beach access Two to three stories tall

CalNeva Casino Crystal Bay

CalNeva Project approved in 2008 but never built due to financing. Permit is expired. Project proposed no expansions of existing height or room number.

Emerald Bay Resort South Tahoe Y

Emerald Bay Resort Approved in late 2009, never built, project now for sale 49 timeshare units, three buildings, one to three stories tall
