You need TWO blank sheets of paper....

Today your job is to work with NO HELP from me or your neighbors on drafting an essay that relates Animal Farm to the people and events of the Russian Revolution. Remember that you have studied strategies such as THE QUOTATION SANDWICH and JANE SCHAFFER CHUNK PARAGRAPHS. Use what you know to draft a 5 paragraph essay. This is OPEN BOOK and OPEN NOTES (but not open neighbors). You have 50 minutes to work on this, so maybe allot 10 min per paragraph????? Our EXIT will include a review of each other’s work... And then you will TURN IN YOUR DRAFT as you leave. It is NOT HOMEWORK (yet). After you have worked for 50 min, you will be prompted to READ YOUR BOOK until it is time to complete the exit.

Hmmmmm... Who finished all 5 paragraphs????? Who folded paper before beginning? Who wrote body skeleton first (topic sentences only?)? Who wrote body paragraphs BEFORE intro and conclusion? Who highlighted thesis, topic sentences, circled transitions, etc.?

 #65 – Initial Review of Essays Name

 #65 – Initial Review of Essays You have two jobs: 1) Fill in the chart for YOU to reference as you continue to work on your essay. What does each person do well... And poorly? What can you learn from each essay? INCLUDING YOURS...in your box, write what you need to do to improve. 2) On EACH ESSAY you read, give the student a + good news feedback (well-done) - bad news feedback (need to improve) Do not repeat others’ ideas... And be helpful, not goofy. Name

Daily Participation Points: 5- BYOB!! Read the whole time. Engaged! 4- Read the majority of the time. Tried! 3-Read some of the time had to be reminded. Floundered! 1-No reading, sleeping, off task. Struggled!

 Select a NEW book that you have NEVER read before  Books w/ movies are okay... You can even see the movie!!!... But you also need to read the book.  At least 200 pages, probably more, and appropriate for your reading level  You are looking for a FICTION book, or a non-fiction biography... Not a textbook, not a topic (“auto mechanics”)... You will need to discuss STORY STRUCTURE and CHARACTER.  If you finish this book before the end of the quarter, you will select another book and KEEP READING  There WILL be a book talk (slightly diff)... We’ll discuss later.
