WOMEN’S RIGHTS By Gisselle Ochoa Sofia Sanchez Spencer Ridenour Antonio Diaz

ANALYSIS The box covering her mouth and hateful opinions stand out. Each opinion is a common one that is said to women on a regular basis. The box covers her mouth as to say she has no voice and the hateful comments are trying to replace her own opinions.

ANALYSIS CONTINUES The box contains the sentences: Women shouldn’t have rights, vote, work or box. These words are placed right over her mouth, and it looks like a google search. This is showing that these mean comments are silencing her own voice.

INFERENCE The creators intentions are to show that women don’t and shouldn’t have rights. The box over the mouth signifies that she isn’t aloud to speak for what she thinks. She doesn’t have the option of freedom of speech, which is a human right.

INFERENCE CONTINUES The black background shows that she is in a dark place in her life and the seriousness in her face shows her unhappiness.

SYNTHESIS The photograph shows a women with a box that conceals her mouth and has a written text saying “women shouldn’t…have rights, vote, work, box.” This emphasizes predominantly on the rhetorical device, pathos.

SYNTHESIS CONTINUES The work appears to request the presence of sympathy from the viewer. The creator intended to divulge women’s adversity and oppression in a man dominated world, through sympathetic imagery

EVALUATION The work does seem to fulfill its creator’s intentions. I think the creator wanted to show how women may be silenced by misconstrued opinions of the work almost

EVALUATION CONTINUES empowers me. Being told that I can’t do or say the things I want to accomplish or speak about, all because of my gender, just makes me want to try harder to prove them wrong. It was worth creating.

ANALYSIS The quote is big and white, which makes it stand out. The sign is bright so it stands out, as well. The composition of the image plays by the Rule Of Thirds, so it makes sure the

ANALYSIS CONTINUES quote are the subject. The quote, “Activism is my rent for living on this planet,” is basically stating that in order to live freely, Alice Walker must protest for her rights.

INFERENCE The creator of the picture assumes that the viewer believes women have no power but he wanted to make sure that women know otherwise. The black and white filter adds to the seriousness of this picture and the quote by Alice Walker, a well known feminist, emphasizes that women work hard to be considered equals.

SYNTHESIS The girl in the picture is unhappy but she will not stand down. She is angered by how men think women are powerless. The photographer shows how they are not weak and that there can be change in our society.

EVALUATION The photograph fulfills the creator’s intentions to express freedom of speech and the power of women. The work affects me in a method that causes me to fell more powerful a an individual.

EVALUATION CONTINUES The image also makes me feel self-assured of being a women. The image was worth creating because it states many subjects such as women’s rights and gender equality.
