Module 6 Look after yourself Unit 2 You should always go with someone.

improvement oncoming couch requires effect Fill in the blanks with new words. There is need for ____________in your handwriting.( 改善 ) Give way to an ___________car. ( 迎面而来的 ) Dad is sleeping on the________. (长沙发) The floor __________washing. (需要) Some ancient laws are still in_____. (影响,有 效)

Look at the pictures. Please describe them in oral English. And tell us what is your feeling when you see them.

Look and listen to the passage. Which paragraphs describe what you can see in the pictures?

1 2 3 Picture 1 —rule 2 Picture 2 —rule 3 Picture 3 — rule 1

Skim the passage and decide who the passage is written for. ① parents ② teenagers ③ families ④ older people

Paragraph 2 (before the last sentence) Paragraph 4 (at the end) Paragraph 5 (before the last sentence) Read and decide where these sentences go in the passage. a) But most people don’t do the same kind of physical work today. b) After a good night’s rest, you look better, feel better--- and work better, too. c) Sometimes it’s not easy to be a teenager because of the pressures of school, or exams and of friendships.

Read carefully and answer the questions. ① What improvements in health care and personal safety do you think help people to live longer today? ② Why should you always go with someone, or tell someone where you’re going in the countryside? ③ How many steps a day do you think you take? Does 10,000 seem a lot?

④ How often do you think it’s OK to eat fast food? ⑤ What would you like to do to stay happy? ⑥ How do smoking and drugs damage people’s health?

Language points 1. Thanks to improvements in both health care and personal safety, most people are living healthier, longer lives. thanks to 意思是 “ 由于,因为 ” 。如: It was all a great success --- thanks to a lot of hard work. Thanks to the warm and sunny weather, oranges grow very well here.

2. The wrong diet means you’ll put on weight … put on weight 意思是 “ 增加体重;长胖 ” 。如: He's putting on weight. I am starting to put on weight again. I can eat what I want, but I never put on weight.

3. Say no … to smoking and drug! 这里 say no / yes to … 表示 “ 向 …… 说 不 / 行 ” ,即 “ 拒绝 / 同意 ” 。如: Did you say yes to (= accept) her invitation? Their offer was so good that I couldn’t say no.

4. Think about the effect on your family and friends… 这里 effect 是名词,意思是 “ 影响、结果、 效果 ” ,后面常接介词 on 。如: The plan failed to achieve the desired effect of diverting traffic from the city. The accident had a huge effect on her life. The room shows off her paintings to good effect.

Make notes about the rules you read in the passage. ① Be careful! Don’t run across the road. ② Don’t be a couch potato! … Now think of one more example of what you should or shouldn’t do for each rule. When you’re in the countryside, take plenty of water and a mobile phone.

Think of a situation when you broke one or more of the rules. Say what happened. Be careful. Don’t run across the road. I was late for school one morning and I was running along the pavement. I got to the crossing, but the traffic lights were green and … Say what you’ll do in the future. I’ll make sure I wait for the traffic to stop next time
