{ Final Project Obstacle and Fire Detection Assistant for Optically Disabled People Group Members: Tahjid Ashfaque Mostafa ( ) Rafiul Hasan ( )
Objective Helping blind people to determine obstacles while walking Detecting and warning about hazardous environment Making it easier for the users to walk without human assistance Assuring a safer environment for the optically disabled people

Detecting Obstacles Uses Sonar sensor to detect obstacles Sends out ultrasonic boom from transmitter It reflects on obstacle and comes back to receiver Multiplying the time difference with sounds speed, we find distance If distance is within the threshold, system warns about obstacle
Detecting Fire Incident Uses temperature and smoke sensors to detect fire Continuously checks for high temperature and strong smoke concentration If temperature and smoke amount is above fire incident’s lower threshold, the system warns about fire incident

Difficulties and Challenges Combining all the inputs from sensors and providing outputs Keeping the project economically practical Providing audio outputs with a buzzer Putting all the components on the walking stick
Future Developments Adding a headphone with this system to directly send audio signals to user Using a better development board such as Raspberry Pi to make better decisions about obstacles and suggesting alternate route Providing warnings with human like voice Conclusion In brief, this is a project aimed to reducing the suffering of the blind people. We would consider this project to be a success if it succeeds in alleviating the problems even to a smaller degree.
