Problems of Austrian SME`s Limited knowledge on future technological developments. Less capacity for own developments. Nearly no educated people in automation. Less experiences for future market developments. Employees are not in favour for new technologies. Limited financial resources.

Example: IFAC Beirat Austria As a national platform for the transfer of knowledge of IFAC in the Austrian industry the “IFAC Beirat” Austria was installed in The main tasks of this “IFAC Beirat” are: to advise the Austrian government in subjects on automation or related to automation. make the Austrian industry especially SME´s familiar with selected newest developments on an international level in the whole field on automation – process as well as manufacturing automation.

IFAC Beirat Austria International Journal „Automation Austria“ – IJAA 25 National Automation Days International Automation Days Bulgaria, Romania, Check Republic, Slovakia, Slovenija Brasil, Argentina, Ecuador, Cuba,…… Canada, Taiwan,……..

Universities and SME`s Universities have man-years on research capacity available in form of project works, Diploma theses, Doctor theses. If a student works in a company – its a good possibility to a test for a future employment. Universities are used to be confronted with “un-solvable” problems. SME`s should contact University institutes as early as possible – because of the “Dead time”. Most of the University institutes are not in favour to implement a solution. Usually institutes have more experience in funding.

Actions Support of consulting Support for a cooperative Project Research Grants Special Research Emphasis Centres of Excellence Attract Austrian SME`s to join EC Projects (FFG) Education EM Program

Actions Innovation check; max. 5k€; FFG – Austrian Reseach Promotion Agency - Consulting AWS – Austrian Economy Service; max. 200k€ Startup max. 1M€ credit INiTS – Innovation into Business - Consulting Extension Institute – EU Research Management Unit …………

Background ISL Automation - special low-cost solutions - soccer robots Re-use and Remarketing of mobile phones - approx mobile phones per year Consultancy - Innovation strategy & Project Management - Business Development

Motivation for cooperation Defend our reputation as frontrunner in innovation in the field of automation as well as treatment of electronic waste Curiosity Core of our business modell Basis for our products, services and consultancy

Forms of cooperation Permanent (since our foundation in 1999): - SAT - Austrian Society for Systems Engineering and Automation - Vienna University of Technology, IHRT - Bay Zoltan Foundation (HU) On project basis: participation in more than 20 national and international (EU and EUREKA) RTD projects

Example: Robot Soccer ROBOTSOCCER is applied Mechatronics, an interdisciplinary field requires specialists from Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Sciences, Mathematics, Control Engineering and Telecommunication. A Robotsoccer team is a hardware “Multi Agent System - MAS” –A number of robots solve a common task cooperatively in an environment consisting of: Static obstacles (playground…) and Dynamic obstacles ( players and ball….) –Path planning, position control……. –Worldwide well known “sport” – p.r and marketing.

Example: Robot Soccer

Players (robots) Roby-GoRoby-Run

Example: Disassembly of PCBs

Disassembly of mobile phones
