Tell-Tale Heart OER pg. 294 Directions: Answer question below on a separate sheet of paper. Make sure you answer with a complete thought, show proof w/textual evidence, and explain the connection between the answer and the text evidence. How do the narrator’s qualities (traits) influence the resolution of the story’s central conflict? (In other words, how does the narrator’s personality lead him to murder the old man?)

My Response- Do not copy! The narrator is a very deranged and mentally unstable individual, which leads him to murder the old man with the vulture eye. Page 294 he expresses that “the disease had sharpened my senses-not dulled them.” It is quite evident that he knows that he is mad and insane. Unable to stop the vulture eye from torturing his soul, he decides the only alternative is to kill the man and “rid himself of the eye forever” (295). Because he is a delusional person, he feels justified in taking the life of the old man and it isn’t until the cops arrive that he fully realizes the depths of his madness.
