What is a myth? Myths are ancient stories that teach a lesson and usually explain how things came to be The characters represent metaphors used to make sense of the world

Roman Gods JUNO -Goddess of women and childbirth -Protector of the Roman people -Married to Jupiter

nymphs -Minor female god like character in myths -Carefree, close to nature, beautiful, love to dance and sing

Vocabulary Narcissus – a white flower with a yellow middle Narcissism – interest and admiration in oneself, especially in one’s physical appearance Narcissist – a person who is overly self involved; often vain and selfish

Conceited – having a very favourable opinion of one’s abilities or looks, thinking you are very good. The conceited man would only date women who looked like models. Embrace – to hug, to accept willingly or eagerly As soon as the young girl stepped off of the plane, her family embraced her. Desolate – lonely; having no hope; gloomy The school seems very desolate on the weekends when all of the students have gone home. Forlorn – unhappy, miserable, lonely, sad After breaking up with her boyfriend, the girl lay forlornly in her room.
