Poland is a Christian country, nearly 90% of Poles belong to the Catholic Church. The official language is Polish. The currency of Poland is 1 złoty and the capital of Poland is Warsaw. Roźwienica is situated in Jarosław County in south east of Poland

Jarosław coat of arms

Jarosław is a historical town on San river. The town used to be famous for its fairs. Merchants from Europe and Middle East following the Amber Route came to Jarosław which was the second biggest trade centre of that time in Central- East Europe. It used to be a town of three different cultures: Polish, Ukrainian and Jewish. It is the capital of Jarosław County.

A bird’s eye-view of Jarosław

Orsetti House

Built in the XVI century, first belonged to the chemist Stanisław Smiszowic and in 1633 bought by Wilhelm Orsetti. Until 1945 Orsetti house had been a private property but after II WW it has become the museum with its unique exhibition of history and culture of the town.

Town Hall

Collegiate Church

As the oldest church in Poland it was built between After the great fire in 1600 it was renovated. In 1723 the church was enriched by the bell tower. In 1807 the temple was bought by Adam Czartoryski. In 1861 the fire consumed most of the interior of the church, the devastated part was fortunately equipped with new altars and a pulpit. In the walls were decorated with Leonard Winterowski’s paintings.

Dominican Monastery

There is a legend that in August 1381 some shepherds found a statue of Virgin Mary seating and holding a dead body of her son Jesus. Believing that it deserves the place of dignity and safety they brought it to the parish church in Jarosław. During the night angles came and took the statue back to the place it had been found. It was taken as a sign that chapel ought to be built there. First a wooden chapel was built, pilgrims from far away came to visit and worship the place- including Queen Jadwiga in 14 th century and Jan III Sobieski in 17 th century. In the 19th century the authorities changed part of the monastery into barracks. The monastery and the church survived wars. In 1966, Pope Paul VI named the church a minor basilica, and in 1970 it became a parish church.

Roźwienicy- our region

Roźwienica is a village in Jarosław County in the south- east of Poland. Roźwienica is the place and the seat of the borough leader. As the district it contains 11 villages. The total population of the district is about 7000.

The seat of borough leader

It is on a small hill and on the list of the national register of historic monuments. Interior of the building used to be embellished with stylish furniture, a library and a great collection of paintings. At present it is the seat of the borough leader.

The ruins of Tower

Only the north-west round tower has been saved and a piece of west wing where people used to live. The thick walls with holes used for shooting were built of stone and brick. Unfortunately there is no roof so the condition of the round tower is getting worse and worse.

The Orthodox Church under the patronage of St. Dimitri

Church probably dates from 1709.A three-part timbered church is placed on a stone foundation. The main room is a nave of the church, covered with a roof and a bell tower on the top. Between 1947 and 1980 the church served as the Roman Catholic Church.

Drochojowski Palace

The palace was built at the beginning of XIX century. Its last owner was Wanda Kołakowska. After II WW it was adopted for Plant Breeding Institute. Till the end of 80s in the building there was a hospital ward. Then the building was arranged for school that has been exciting ever since.

Roźwienica and its nearby villages delight the visitors with nice atmosphere and hospitality of local community. Terrain covered with stunning forests makes it even more attractive. We are proud of who we are, where we are from and we want to share our joy and pride with our friends.
