What is a carbon footprint? It’s the measure of a person’s contribution to global warming Pretty much every human action from watching TV to buying food has a carbon cost Watching a plasma TV for 3 hours emits 250 kilograms of carbon each year Consuming electricity is one of the main factors of a carbon footprint
How much carbon do we emit? Green house gases has risen rapidly in the past 2 centuries so far It’s levels today are higher then in the last six hundred and fifty thousands years In 1995 each person was responsible for 1 ton of carbon emissions Even if all carbon emissions are stopped the earth would still be warmed for a century
What I can do to reduce my carbon footprint Turning down my heater in the winter and using the fan more in the summer Buying more carbon friendly food products Walking or biking to more places instead of driving Recycle more of our products Unplugging electronics that are not in use Use less hot water in the shower
What you can do to reduce your carbon footprint Reuse products that can be used Take shorter showers with less hot water Limiting the amount of fossil fuels we use daily Heat homes with gas or oil instead of heaters Use longer lasting materials like light bulbs Use cleaner sources of energy
