Teachers meet weekly with administrators and instructional coaches to review data and plan for instruction for the next week. SAFEs Short And Frequent Evaluations Weekly / short assessments over standards taught that week in each class. Must use higher order questions on assessments - like State Assessment.

Elbert County Middle School will implement the Positive Behavioral Intervention and Supports (PBIS). If a student can’t read……we Teach! If a student can’t read……we Teach! PBIS focuses on building a positive school culture, where all students, teachers, and families have a common language and understanding of appropriate behaviors. Instead of focusing on negative behaviors, the school works to teach students desired behaviors and to reward students when they follow rules and expectations. PBIS Schools emphasize a school-wide system of supports that include strategies for defining, teaching, and supporting appropriate behavior. The goal is to design the most effective learning community possible with the best outcomes for all students. Attention is focused on creating and sustaining school- wide, classroom, and individual systems of support. Unlike how schools have typically responded in the past – discipline in response to student misbehavior – PBIS teaches behavioral expectations and rewards students for following them. The goal is to establish a climate in which appropriate behavior is the norm.

Elbert County Middle School will engage families and community members as active participants to help the school achieve its continuous improvement goals as evidenced through our Title I Parent Survey. Measureable Goals and Data The school gives parents an opportunity to be involved with their child’s learning – Goal 70% (Baseline %) Parents will be given an opportunity to participate in the planning of the parental involvement program - Goal 70% (Baseline %)

 First Parent Advisory Committee Meeting was held on June 26 th. All parents were issued invitations by mail to attend.  An additional meeting was held to again issue invitations to those who expressed interest in serving on the committee. Meeting was scheduled for October 15th. Survey was sent to gauge interest in possible topics for informational parent meetings.  A Title I Parent Involvement meeting was held September 23 at 6:30pm. Chorus performed and a Wizard of Oz skit was used to share information about Title I at ECMS. Parents were allowed to visit teachers in their classrooms at the conclusion of the program.

 A Parent Advisory Committee meeting was held on October 15 th and the group decided that additional information/training on Infinite Campus and PBIS were needed.  ECMS held its first School Council Meeting on October 23 rd and input was sought for parental engagement activities.  November 4 th was Parent-Teacher Conference Day. Mrs. Kendall was available to provide Infinite Campus parent training during the day. 16 families registered for access to Infinite Campus.

Survey Results from Parent/Teacher Conference Day  98.1% of parents like the idea of P-T Conference Days  100% feel better informed about their child’s school work  96.2% would like us to continue  94 % of parents said they did not have a hard time scheduling their conference.  ALL of the parent written feedback was positive!

 The Parent Engagement Night date is set for November 13 th at 6:00 PM with Infinite Campus, PBIS, and Georgia Milestones the topics to be addressed. Teams will provide additional information and answer questions as parents will be allowed to visit classrooms.  November is American Education Week. ECMS will invite parents into the classroom on Tuesday, November 18 th for a firsthand look at what the school day is like for their children.
