Planning a Healthy Pregnancy Life Planning Mrs. Hood

Introduction Research has shown that the more prepared a parent is for the arrival of a baby, the less stress they will face during the first few months after the baby’s arrival. The earlier a woman plans for her pregnancy, the more time she will have to prepare and seek the medical attention to ensure a healthy pregnancy.

Introduction Nutrition plays a big part in the success of a pregnancy. Women who are pregnant need more nutrients in their bodies and it is important to know which ones. Along with nutrition there are different activity/personal needs, the need for prenatal medical care and general education about pregnancy, and birthing choices.

Introduction Through this assignment, you, the students, will research and develop a lesson plan in one of the listed areas. You will be required to present the information in your next class. You will have 30 minutes to present each lesson to the class (2-3 per class period). This will include a lesson plan, PowerPoint, note- taking guide, class activity, and student evaluation (quiz).

Task In groups of 3-4 prepare a lesson plan with a PowerPoint, note-taking guide, activity and student evaluation on one of the following areas surrounding a healthy pregnancy: Group 1 **Highlight signs of pregnancy. Include normal signs and signs of miscarriage during the 1 st trimester (Weeks 1-12). Also tell us how long the risk of miscarriage is, and explain what an ectopic pregnancy is and what can happen during that time. ) As well, highlight the importance of early and regular medical care during pregnancy. **Explain what tests are usually given and what optional tests are available to the mom to be during the first trimester? What about for women over 35? Do they see a different doctor when they are over 35 for these tests? Group 2 **Highlight what a nutritious diet is during pregnancy and why diet is important before, during and after pregnancy. Include what type of weight gain, and extra calories that can be consumed during each trimester.

Task Group 3 Highlight what happens to baby and mother during each trimester of pregnancy. (Include Weeks 1-12, 13-27, and 28-40) Group 4 Highlight what personal care should take place for a pregnant woman before, during and after pregnancy and why. Include exercise, medication, food and anything a pregnant woman should avoid while pregnant. Group 5 Highlight childbirth choices that are available to parents. Include advantages and disadvantages of each. Group 6 Highlight the signals of the onset of labor and what happens during the 3 stages of labor. Highlight what personal care should take place after the baby has been born.

Evaluation You will be graded according to your completion of assignment in the 10 following areas: Completed lesson plan form PowerPoint with a minimum of 10 easy-to-read slides, including graphics that illustrate main points. Presentation: your group demonstrates knowledge of your topic, the information is accurate, factual, you are able to answer questions on your topic, and info is presented equally; well developed PowerPoint Useful note-taking guide created for class (fill in the blank is the best) Appropriate activity for class to complete Evaluation of student’s understanding-Mini Quiz Bibliography-APA or MLA (included on PowerPoint) Classroom management ~ how well do you handle the class?

Project Due Date The Planning a Healthy Pregnancy project is due for presentations beginning on April 29/30, All directions are in the PowerPoint in the file section.
