Tribute to Alfred Date ( )

Alfred had many goals achieved in his wonderful, long life that was very enjoyable like playing golf until he was 90, soccer into his late 40s, playing cricket into his late 50s and when he went whitewater rafting in Canada when he was 91. Alfred was always determined to do things for himself. Alfred went to Peninsula Village Retirement Centre when he was 108. Alfred had started knitting sweaters for penguins in case of an event where an oil spillage happens. He was happy to knit the jumpers for the penguins in need.

Alfred had many words of wisdom like “ Live everyday like it’s your best,” and his secret to living so long, being sensible in the way you live. Don’t live just for yourself, but try and be of help or service to somebody else. He was a father to seven kids, and a grandfather to 20. He is so old that he remembered the sinking of the Titanic in 1912, and the declaration of World War 1. He loved the time when he turned 110 and when Empire Bay Public School’s Concert band came and performed for everyone. Alfred said that the Empire Bay Public School band had made his day. Many people miss him as he was a very joyful man.

You will live on in peoples memories, Alfred. If we need to be inspired by such a wonderful man, all we need to do is look to the night sky and look for your star.
