Conditionals Zero Conditional---fact Ist Conditional--Real 2nd Conditional---Present Unreal 3rd Conditional---Past Unreal

If + Subject + present tense, subject + present tense. Zero Conditional If + Subject + present tense, subject + present tense. If it rains, I get wet. If there is no light, I can’t see. If we run home, we get there earlier.

1st Conditional-Present, Real If + Subject + present tense, subject + future tense. If it rains, I will get wet. If you go, I will have to stay. If she stays, I will go.

2nd Conditional---Present Unreal If + Subject + simple past, + subject + would/could + base form of a verb. If I had money, I would go on the trip. If I didn’t have to study, I would go with you. If I knew English, I wouldn’t have to study it. Is Zoe were here, she would learn about conditionals.

3rd Conditional- Past Unreal If + subject + past perfect, + subject + would/could have + past participle. If Sofia had listened to her mom, she wouldn’t have been in so much trouble. If Maria had done her homework, she wouldn’t have failed the course. If you had been more discrete, he wouldn’t have gotten so angry.

Remember… 0 conditional: If + Subject + present tense, subject + present tense. 1st conditional: If + Subject + present tense, subject + future tense. 2nd conditional: If + Subject + simple past, + subject + would/could + base form of a verb. 3rd conditional: If + subject + past perfect, + subject + would/could have + past participle.

extras.... A conditional clause is made up of an if clause or conditional clause, which begins with if, and then a result clause. If he fails,--- if or conditional clause he won’t get a diploma.----result clause. If you begin with the if clause there will be a comma between the if clause and the result clause. You can also begin with a result clause, but you must not use a comma between the result clase and the if clause. E.g.: We will have a party if you demonstrate that you understand the conditionals.
