SYNOPSIS (1) Protect environment Promote agriculture and farming Reduce pollution of the atmosphere Improve the standard of living of every household

SYNOPSIS Capacity building Encourage women to take responsibilities Provide work for women

OBJECTIVES Promote gender equality Encourage women to take responsibilities Help women to earn their living Protect environment Reduce bush fire Increase agriculture and farming productivity Empower and build the capacity of women Increase the number of water sources (standpipes) 50/50 BY 2015: DEMANDING A STRONG POST 2015 AGENDA

BACKGROUND Degradation of the environment in the council (bushfire, production of charcoal, exploitation of the forest) Insufficiency of household revenue Water sources are drying up Beekeeping contributes to environment protection and increases family income The extraction of gemstones really harms the surrounding environment Women are under-represented in all spheres

KEY ACTIVITIES Awareness-raising (schools, chiefs of villages, ect.) Implementation of the project Elaboration of a DINA (a community convention) which promotes the protection of the environment Monitoring and evaluation Establishment of tree nurseries Tree planting carried out by each village, by each school Capacity building 50/50 BY 2015: DEMANDING A STRONG POST 2015 AGENDA

CHALLENGES -Some people were reluctant to attend meeting. E.g: women -People didn’t want to give their lands for tree planting -Men’s domination was significant -Lack of budget intended for women -Instability of Council leaders Solutions: -Awareness raising and advocacy and local election -Research of partnerships -Reinforce existing committees (working on gender equality and environment) 50/50 BY 2015: DEMANDING A STRONG POST 2015 AGENDA

LESSON LEARNED AND INNOVATION Awareness and lobbying campaigns are essential for the development of the community The protection of the environment is the important for health and production For an effective development, women need to take responsibilities 50/50 BY 2015: DEMANDING A STRONG POST 2015 AGENDA

LEARNING AND SHARING WITH OTHER COUNCILS  Partnership with the Ministry of Forest and the Regional Direction of Rural Development (DRDR) and other partners such as the AROPA and Grand Lyon  They helped for environment protection and women empowerment

KEY PRIORITIES FOR 2014 Encourage women’s participation in decision making positions Facilitate women’s access to income generating activities Reinforce actions towards environment protection Develop partnerships (drinking water, protection of the environment) 50/50 BY 2015: DEMANDING A STRONG POST 2015 AGENDA
