Bojanala District NMM District Dr KK District Dr RSM District AmajubaZululandUthukele Umkhanyaku de Harry GwalaUthunguluUmzinyathi Schedule of Pre-Reviews: February 1, February 10, 2016

Preparatory Comments Before Peer Review September meeting: Some of the dash board elements were clarified Relationship between ideal clinic and NCS December meeting: Clarity given on elements for common understanding Created platform for district coordinators to meet with and interact with their peer reviewers, Development of route plans, Accommodation for peer review assessors was discussed, Submission of the Identity documents of peer reviewers assessors for logistical purposes.

Software Preparation The software was prepared and availed, Clarity was also provided on the software.

Communication to Peer Reviewers Correspondence well communicated in advance, National held meetings with District coordinators.

Comments on Preparation Peer reviewers expected to be inducted on the new manual and checklist prior the assessment, which didn’t happen.

Comments during Peer Review Travelling Arrangements: Shuttle services –Excellent services to and from the airport, Flight tickets –Properly arranged and service provider promptly communicated through SMS ’s, Car hire –Service was good except for Dr KK district, which received the cars two hours after arriving at the airport, they also had to buy fuel as their card was blocked, however, it was later resolved by NDOH.

Comments during Peer Review cont… Accommodation and meals: Too far from the facilities e.g. Eshowe // Vryheid, Poor reservation regarding some of our districts, NMM team struggled with the meals throughout their stay at the venues, were even intimidated by being held hostage on their last day due to non confirmation of the booking for the entire stay.

Comments during Peer Review cont… Support by Host District: Excellent & Fantastic support to all our districts, Very good team spirit and positive attitude, Support of Contact Person on Arrival: Warm welcome on arrival at every sub- district and facility.

Comments During Peer Review cont… Support to Visit Facilities: Accompanied by management (including District Managers, CEO, HR, Finance & SCM etc.) and partners at all times, Support of Facility Managers: Excellent support, warm welcome, available and committed at all times.

Availability Of Resources For Peer Review Hardcopy of Peer Review Instruments: Received very late, teams had already used their own, Modems received very late, some not working at all, and for some teams the modems never arrived, and we had to use our own private modems.

Availability of Resources for Peer Review Ideal Clinic software (access, data upload and support): The system was not open for capturing on the first day of the peer-review, Support was provided throughout the assessment by NDOH.

What Went Well and Should Be Part of Future Peer Review Preparatory Phase: Consultation with district representatives, Criteria used for allocation of teams provided, Availability of draft version prepared us. During Peer Review: Continuous support from NDOH teams,

What went Wrong And Should Be Improved in Future Peer-Reviews Preparatory Phase: Criteria used to select the facilities was not objective and representative, e.g. In NMM only one facility in the entire district was assessed. Unavailability of resources (modems) prior to assessments, During Peer Review: Inadequate logistical arrangements such as accommodation and meals for some team members.

General Experience of Peer Reviews Excellent experiential learning, Good practices observed in and around KZN, Resources are a key success factor in compliance, Excellent positive staff attitudes observed in KZN.

Additional Comments Additional team members to cater for capturing, e.g. data capturers, team members, Avoid frequent changing of the tool, Induction of peer reviewers prior to the assessment on the review tool.

CONCLUSION Acknowledge and Appreciate this brilliant initiative by the NDoH.

THANK YOU RE A LEBOGA
