To improve your knowledge and understanding of RCN UWC practices Attendance, Feedback, Grades What? When? How? Who?

Attendance policy We care about our attendance! Attend classes, commitments.. as promised! If you need to miss classes (eg, special opportunity, funeral), ask Alistair first - “Pre-Arranged absence”. If you miss class(es) without Pre-Arranged – teacher marks you as “Absent”. If you are sick, contact the teacher as soon as possible (before!) – teacher marks you as “Absent”- reported sick contact the Care Centre. Classes missed recorded on RoP, transcript

Three monitor periods through year: Sept. – Nov.; Nov. – March; March – June. If you are Absent more than 10 classes within a period, Alistair may call meeting to consider reasons. Extenuating circumstances (eg, sickness) are taken into account. May result in “special measures”, or formal academic warning. If unacceptable absences persist, the case is passed to the rektor John.

Feedback 1 1.On-going: oral, comments on written work, 2.Feedback Week October; Mid-March Two-way discussion, may include questionnaire, on process of class and your learning. Student Teacher

Feedback 2 Binary Feedback After each Feedback Week, teachers enter “OK” or “Not OK” for each student. Any student with 2+ “Not OKs” raised for discussion in teacher Meeting – recommendations for follow-up.

Grades at RCN (in relation to IB criteria) Achieved: the standard of your work, based on evidence: written, oral. Anticipated: the grade a teacher expects you will achieve in the IB finals. Used for university applications. Predicted: the grade a teacher expects you will achieve in the IB finals. Entered into IB website & used by the IB as a way to check the grade examiners award, based on your exams.

When teachers enter grades Grades – a form of feedback w.r.t. IB criteria 4-satisfactory; 5-good; 6-very good; 7-excellent March (1 st yr): Achieved grade May RoP (1 st yr): Achieved & Anticipated October (2 nd yr): update Anticipated November RoP (2 nd yr): Achieved & Anticipated March (2 nd. yr): Predicted Grade to IB.
