A case is a significant* story with an educational message. * According to whom?

Types of Cases Analysis cases ask “What Happened?” Decision/Dilemma Cases also ask “What Should be Done?” Trigger Cases Open ended v Closed Can be historical or contemporary

Many Sources of Cases Existing materials: Newspapers, journals, public reports, minutes of meetings, cartoons Original research Fictional

Your style & purpose guides the design… Convergence of big ideas in course + big issues in Indian Country Disciplinary focus Length, multiple parts? Format – print, nonprint style ie video Narrative Point of view Audience & knowledge base Teaching preferences

Strategies to get started Make the title a question Identify key issues or concepts Ask whether this would be of interest to others. Where might it be used? Many design decisions along the way….
