PHYSICAL SCIENCE With Mr. Baker

Who Am I? Have Taught Physics, Physical Science for over 20 years Most of the time at Brandywine High School 2 nd year at Cab Calloway

Philosophy The effort should match the reward

Class Guidelines Important Class Rules Respect In Class, On time Be Prepared Electronic devices, food

Help If you need help: –Talk to me or contact me by –Before school –After school/ 4 th period by appointment –If you do not ask, how can I help?

Materials A folder and/or a binder Your book, when needed Planner Pen/pencil Calculator Keep all graded assignments, your record

Grade policy How your grade will be calculated What will it be calculated on? Rounding Partial credit and showing work Extra Credit Difference between honors and CP

Reading (5 th period only) Must in seat and quiet before I close the door, otherwise you are considered late to class During this 15 minute period you may: – read –work silently on homework (not in a group) –Work silently on your newspaper assignment There will be many days I have work that needs to be completed during this time. – Anyone who does not follow the rules will be explain why they can not to Mr. Hocking, Mrs. Bennett or the Dean

Newspaper assignment Reading the newspaper over a 2 week period, you must find 8 connections between what you read and what we are working on in class Relates to… Velocity Acceleration Friction Air resistance…

Newspaper assignment, Part 2 Every 2 weeks, a sheet turned in to me with the following information: –Your Name –Title of article, picture plus author’s name –Physical Science topic that is connected to the picture –1-2 sentence describing the connection Ex: The runner changed his velocity from the start of the race. That is an example of acceleration.

Grade value of Newspaper assignment Each valid, completed entry is worth a point Bonus point for an unusual, unique example (determined by Mr. Baker) Failure to complete assignment will be treated as if you miss any other graded assignment
