A Desperate Deed & Moulin Rouge Presentation

Example 1: The short film ‘A Desperate Deed’ by Matt Bird uses a motif to convey the theme of crime happening throughout the film. This scene focuses on a weapon which makes the audience suspicious.

Example 2:The close up of the bloody hands manipulates the audience to believe a murder has been committed, even though we haven't seen him commit the crime. This supports the theme of a crime happening.

Example 3: The letters of debt show that he has a motive for committing a crime as they are low on money. Conveying the idea that the family is in a desperate state and the reason for a crime.

Example 4: The mid shot of the photo shows the emotion of the mothers face and allows the audience to see the state the family is in. This makes the audience understanding of the family situation. The daughter is blurred in the background to symbolise that she is unaware of the situation.

Example 5: The point of view shot focuses on the Christmas tree and his bandaged hand. The audience realises even though he committed a crime, they were lead to believe a different crime was committed and feel sympathy for the family as the crime was for good intentions.

Example 1: The close up of the two shows the emotion of the couple and how they feel about each other. You can see by how close they are together that they are in love and care for one and another.
