What is Title I? Through a grant application process to the VDOE, federal funds are provided to give financial assistance to public schools with high percentages of children receiving free/reduced meals. These funds are utilized to help ensure that all children meet challenging State academic content and student academic achievement standards as measured by the SOLs.

Schoolwide Program Targeted Assistance Program Types of Title I Programs: Schoolwide and Targeted Assistance Robert E. Lee Elementary Walnut Hill Elementary A.P. Hill Elementary J.E.B. Stuart Elementary Peabody Middle School Vernon Johns Middle School

Targeted Assistance A school is eligible for a targeted assistance Title I program if it serves an eligible Title I school attendance area. Schoolwide Programming A school is eligible to become a Title I schoolwide program if there is a high percentage of children receiving free/reduced meals and it is receiving Title I funding.

Targeted Assistance Referral Process Referral Process: Title I Team, Principal and School-Based- Leadership Team review students’ data and complete the appropriate referral form of students who may need Title I assistance. Permission Forms (English and Spanish Version)- Sent out to parents BEFORE student is placed on Eligibility List and parent must sign and return BEFORE student is placed on eligibility list and submitted of OFPSI. After parent(s) return signed permission form, students will begin receiving Title I services. Parents will receive a discontinue service form if the school- based team decides that the student no longer needs Title I services.

Schedule and supervise homework time D. Attend parent meetings E. Express high expectations, offer praise, and encouragement F. Support the school in its efforts to maintain proper discipline G. Show respect for my child, teachers, and the school H. Monitor my child’s daily attendance and punctuality
