Stephen L. Moffett LEAD TEACHER CANDIDATE: INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY

WHO IS STEPHEN MOFFETT? Bachelor of Science—Computer Science, Rust College Former Positions Mississippi Valley State University, Itta Bena, MS Fort Valley State University, Fort Valley, GA Current Position Alabama A&M University, Normal (Huntsville), AL Applicant for Information Technology Lead Teacher Middle School Students (6 th through 8 th grades) Basic Computer Literacy to Advanced Computer Programming

EDUCATIONAL PHILOSOPHY My philosophy for teaching and education fall into these three methods: Standards-based learning environment/Ungraded classrooms; Multiage classrooms; and, Traditional classrooms

CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT The goal of classroom management is to ensure: Students understand and apply the rules and expectations of their courses; Students will be prepared to learn and engage in the learning process; Students will monitor the behavior of themselves and that of their peers; Teacher will follow the “Six Effective Behavior Supports,” (Sayeski and Brown, 2011), and ISTE Standards for Teachers.

SCHOOL MODELS Working in Higher Education has some benefits: Mature student body Variety of ages and experience levels Multitude of traditional and contemporary classroom models Working in Higher Education has many drawbacks: Lack of student preparedness and readiness for higher level thinking Lack of attendance, reporting on-time Limited knowledge of general information, student mastery of basic level thinking limited Teaching toward College and Career Readiness Anchor Standards needs serious consideration at the elementary through high school levels before pursuit of college

EFFECTIVE LESSON PLANNING—STUDENT ROLE Students must be considered FIRST, hence the Backward Design The identified desired results must be considered. Determine the best assessment tool. Plan learning experiences and instruction methods.

ASSESSMENT MATTERS Assessment will continue to evolve especially with technology: Summative assessments Formative assessments Classroom Paradigm shifts affect student learning behaviors, hence constant evaluations.

PROFESSIONAL LEARNING COMMUNITIES Knowledge for Practice, Knowledge in Practice, and Knowledge of Practice. Be a catalyst for change. Consult with National Association for the Education of Young Children, Council for Exceptional Children, National Council of Teachers of Mathematics.
