Enigmas Checklist  Use Weekly Goals Pages.  Choose an enigma. You may use attachment #2 for ideas, or you may choose one of your own.  Use the 5 questions below, plus write three more questions that you will investigate while researching your enigma. Fill out attachment #4. o How would you describe the enigma? o How long have people know about it? o How do scientists from different fields explain the enigma? o How are their opinions the same and how are they different? o How has understanding of the enigma changed over time?  Write your own theory of the cause of the enigma.  Write an experiment that tests your hypothesis for the cause of the enigma.  Conduct your experiment, revise your hypothesis if needed, answer questions to create your conclusion, and fill out all of attachment 6.  Develop a board game or learning center based on your enigma. Your game should include: o Fair rules o Accurate information about your enigma o Various theories about its cause  Present your game or learning center to the class. Students will be able to ask questions at the end of your presentation.  Create a display board to showcase your research, experiment (using the scientific process), and anything else you created or learned during your study of enigmas. Your display should be set up similar to that of a science fair project, typed, and placed neatly on the display board. See Mrs. McGary before gluing anything to your board. Could aliens have built them, or were humans of that time actually able to compute so precisely that modern mathematicians, engineers, and architects still marvel at their handiwork? Colonists settled Roanoke Island in When the leaders of the colony returned to the Old World, they instructed the settlers to leave a sign in an obvious place if they fled. Did this advanced civilization, first described by the Greek philosopher Plato, really exist, or was it a parable to show how the gods punish mortals? Jacques Cousteau has searched the oceans and seas for this enigma. Internet sources: Stonehenge. From a distance, the gray stones rise abruptly from the treeless plain. Obviously, they are not a part of the natural English landscape. A closer look reveals a ring of huge, upright stones—many of them more than thirteen feet high—that appear to be deliberately placed in a large circle. Resting on top of these stones are massive flat slabs of rock. Inside the circle are several additional upright stones topped with heavy slabs. For centuries people have looked at these stones and wondered who constructed this structure and why. From ground level, these great drawings are invisible, yet the Nazca Indians laid them across the desert 1,500 years ago, long before man could fly. What was their meaning?
