His family ancestry has been indigenous to New Mexico for generations (Jicarilla/Chihene Apache, Tiwa, Mexican and Spanish). He has been married to his wife Carmen for 29 years. They have three adult children, daughter in law and one grandson. Their children have benefited from attending and graduating from the Las Cruces Public Schools (Mayfield High) and NM Universities (UNM and NMSU).
Experience Civil Rights Career He has served as a civil rights leader and advocate for over 30 years with the League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC), the oldest and largest Hispanic civil rights and membership organization. He served as Council President of Las Cruces Council 120 and a former NM State Director. Organized series of mega marches in 2005 and 2006 on comprehensive immigration reform and against border vigilante groups. Obtained donations in 2009 and 2010 from major food distributors to donate tons of food to NM Food Banks. He has served as a strong advocate for equity and inclusion for all, particularly in the Hispanic community in the areas of social justice and economic parity. Joined the NM Attorney General in the Amicus Brief in the Writ of Mandamus action against Land Commissioner Patrick Lyons for the unlawful land exchange of sacred indigenous land White Peak. Joined in litigations on redistricting cases that violated the Voting Rights Act of He was also a former union leader with the American Federation of State County and Municipal Employees, New Mexico Council 18. He served as a steward and Secretary/Treasurer. Served on the Collective Bargaining Act of 1993 Negotiating Team. Paul has enjoyed a long standing career in Law Enforcement and Corrections. He retired as a Corrections Administrator with the New Mexico Department of Corrections. He owns and operates a Private Investigation business. He currently works as a contract Investigator with the Office of Inspector General of the Dona Ana County Sheriff's Department. He also worked as a Contract Inspector General with the 3rd Judicial District Attorney's Office in Dona Ana County. He served on the NM Gang Task Force and founding member of the International Latino Gangs Investigator's Association.
Mission/Vision Goals Platform Paul's desire is to help New Mexico families improve access to higher education, affordable heath care and economic opportunities. He will use his experience to advocate for improved public safety awareness, tougher laws to protect the elderly from consumer fraud, college students and families from predatory lending; and advocating for victims' rights. Today, Paul wants to serve as your voice at the Round House in Santa Fe. A voice that echoes your concerns. A voice that matters. A voice that cares. I will strive to fight for the hard working NM Families to bring economic opportunities that our ancestors of this great state envisioned. Fight to fund Public Education and NM Universities. Fight to fund and improve legislation for the Mental Health consumers. Improve legislation for Victims Rights and Reparations. Advocate for historic conservation and cultural preservation.
