Connections Across Text 2.7B Analyse 4 texts Oral visual written At least one self selected text

Reading (viewing/listening) and Notetaking Make notes using the handout sheet Keep these at school Do the connection chart you are given

Drafting Task Work out your theme Identify 2 connections about the theme Each connection must link at least 2 texts (similar and or different) You must connect 4 texts in total

Love Connection 1: A loving relationship is not necessarily an easy relationship Connection 2: Family love requires effort and friendship Texts:Romeo and Juliet Robin Hood Modern Family Little Miss Sunshine

Love Theme Connection 1: A loving relationship is not necessarily an easy relationship Romeo and Juliet- opposing families, Juliet’s arranged marriage to another man, Romeo banned for revenge killing of his cousin Mercutio Robin Hood and Maid Marion – Robin banned from Loxley (same as Romeo) for seeking justice over taxes

Love Theme interpretations Both couples are in love The separation makes the characters anxious about each other’s welfare Both couples risk death seeing each other At times they risk their situation for the other person’s goal Love makes each character’s existence more fulfilling

Love Theme Connection 2: Family love requires effort and friendship Modern family showed the wife having to adapt to the fact her husband inappropriately bought a sports car for the real estate business ( really for his own gratification) Little Miss Sunshine shows the ups and downs of a family supporting the daughter’s wish/obsession to be a child beauty queen

Love Theme interpretations Sometimes family members have to suffer the poor choices a family member makes Friendship means families will ‘go the distance’ and be there to support a family member’s choices or aspirations However odd family member choices are, they add to the fabric of human experience one has within a family

Alternatively You may take a specific idea and examine in through characters in two texts and setting in another two texts. E.g. Texts show the ‘Loving side of human nature’ Through the characters - in Modern family and Little Miss Sunshine Through the setting/imagery - in Robin Hood and Romeo and Juliet.

To get to Merit or above Reasoned and clear interpretations What the connections show us about human experience, society and the world in general Connections can examine the – Ideas / characters experiences – Author’s purpose / audience – Language features – visual / written / oral – Text /story structures used in the texts.

Writing Use linking words. Another way, this is similar to, this was also present in… Link one text to another using a word E.g Romeo had recriminations when he was banned from the Verona. Likewise, Robin Hood’s banning from Loxley made him consider the cost of his courageous stand on his ability to live the settled harmonious life he looked forward to.

Writing Supporting evidence means -describing events in your words -using quotes - using facts.
