Westbrook Contractor Safety Training (March 31, 2016) Dana Beaulieu Sappi Westbrook Operations Environmental, Health, Safety and Security Manager Environmental Policy for Contractors

Sappi’s Environmental Policy  We believe that reducing our environmental impact is critical to our company’s success: therefore, we are committed to reducing our carbon footprint, conserving energy, decreasing waste and preventing pollution.

Chemical Storage  All chemicals and flammable materials must be properly stored.  All chemicals must be stored in labeled containers.  Do not store incompatible materials together.  Any oil product brought on site must be stored so that spills will be contained.  Fixed or portable fuel tanks must have secondary containment.

4 Waste Chemicals o Contractors are responsible for removing all chemicals brought on site. o Examples: Partial or full containers of: Fiberglass resins Paint Cleaning agents o If you generate a hazardous waste but cannot transport the waste off site, contact the Environmental Manager (Ext. 4286) or Treatment Plant Operator (Ext. 4537) for assistance. Example: A spill of hazardous chemical on the ground will create a hazardous waste that must be handled according to State and Federal regulations.

5 Spill Prevention and Reporting o All chemical and oil spills must be immediately reported to the Plant Protection Department ( or Ext. 4222). o Remediation of spills is the responsibility of the contractor. o The Environmental Manager must be advised of any spill, and approve of any action taken to remediate a spill. o The Environmental Manager will make proper notification to regulatory agencies.

6 Spill Prevention and Reporting – Cont. o No chemicals or oil products may be put on the ground or in any storm water system. o Use of the mill sewer collections system is prohibited unless approved by the Environmental Manager.

7 o You cannot dispose of dirt, demolition debris, or any other solid waste on mill property without authorization from the Environmental Manager. Dirt & Demolition Debris
