OBE is an educational process. Directed/focussed at achieving certain specified outcomes in terms of individual student learning. Outcomes - key things students should understand and be able to do or the qualities they should develop. Both structures and curricula are designed to achieve those capabilities or qualities. Educational structures and curriculum are regarded as means not ends. If they do not do the job they are re- thought (Continuous Quality Improvement -CQI).

What will be involved in the process towards OBE? Assessment Tools - Introducing variety of assessment and evaluation tools to measure the achievement of PEO and PO. Data, Evidence Collection, Evaluation & Analysis - Collecting evidences of process involved and the achievement of the PEO and PO.

PEO describe the expected accomplishments of the graduates in respect of their career and professional life five years after their graduation. These must be designed such that they support the institution Vision and Mission.

Establishment of PEO PEO are established based on inputs of the numerous stakeholders with guidelines of the visions and missions of the university and the faculty. PEO are periodically revised to meet the dynamics nature and demands of the manufacturing industries. Program Outcomes (PO) is the second component of Outcome Based Education (OBE). PO describes what the graduates are expected to know and able to perform immediately upon their graduation. These include skills, knowledge, and social attributes of the graduates. The expected program outcomes are crucial and are closely tied to achieving PEOs. Program outcomes are established based on inputs and recommendations of numerous stakeholders.

No.Program Outcome 1 Able to apply knowledge of mathematics, science, engineering fundamentals and manufacturing engineering to the solution of complex engineering problems. 2 Able to identify, formulate, research literature and analyse complex engineering problems reaching substantiated conclusions using first principles of mathematics, natural sciences and engineering sciences. 3 Able to design solutions for complex engineering problems and design systems, components or processes that meet specified needs with appropriate consideration for public health and safety, cultural, societal, and environmental considerations.

No.Program Outcome 4 Able to conduct investigation into complex problems using research based knowledge and research methods including design of experiments, analysis and interpretation of data, and synthesis of information to provide valid conclusions. 5 6 Able to apply reasoning informed by contextual knowledge to assess societal, health, safety, legal and cultural issues and the consequent responsibilities relevant to professional engineering practice.

What are Learning Outcomes? Demonstrations, or performance reflects What the students expected to know. What the student can actually do with what they know. The student’s confidence and motivation in demonstrating what they know.

Learning outcomes are the most important section of your teaching. They are essential because they: Define the type and depth of learning that students are expected to achieve. Provide an objective benchmark for formative and summative assessment. Clearly communicate expectations to learners. Clearly communicate graduates’ skills to the stakeholders. Guide and organize the instructor and the learner.
