AP Statistics PreCalculus/Trig and IB

26 th year at Carmel High School 3 years before kids and 23 after kids Attended ISU and University of Iowa a long time ago 3 grown daughters who are all CHS and Purdue Graduates One year old granddaughter that lives in MN and a grandson that is due any day that lives in Westfield

me with questions and concerns. I can probably get back to you that day. I will try to keep myccs up-to-date with assignments, worksheets, notesheets, and grades. Be patient with CCS teachers as we adjust to our new attendance and grading system – PowerSchool

5. Tell them you always liked Mathematics when you were in school. 4. Make sure they come to school well rested 3. Ask to see the notes they have taken in class. 2. Ask to see the homework they have completed 1. Attendance, Attendance, Attendance

TI-83 or 84 Graphing Calculator is Required Complete the course material by Spring Break Each Quarter will be weighted 80% Tests/Quizzes and 20% Homework. I collect the unit Homework on Test Day. Final Grades will be based on 40% for each Quarter and 20% for Final Exam. Unlike in years past, AP Stat will have a Final Exam at the end of First Semester.

We typically have 3 weeks to review for the AP Test and take a practice Exam (Final Exam) The AP Exam is the afternoon of May 3, 2011 The State of Indiana has picked up all but $8 in the past. We are under the assumption that this will continue. Registration is prior to Spring Break According to the Program of Studies your child is now required to take the AP Exam to get the AP credit for the Academic Honors Diploma. (Class of 2011 and beyond)

AP Grade CHS 2005 CHS 2006 CHS 2007 CHS 2008 CHS 2009 CHS 2010 Typical National %’s 5 17 (20%) 12 (16%) 22 (28%) 41 (42%) 26 (32%) 29 (31%) (40%) 30 (40%) 28 (36%) 26 (27%) 30 (37%) 36 (39%) (29%) 22 (29%) 19 (24%) 20 (20%) 13 (16%) 16 (17%) (5%) 8 (11%) 8 (10%) 11 (11%) 9 (11%) 9 (10%) (6%) 3 (4%) 1 (1%) 0 (0%) 3 (4%) 3 (3%)20 Total Avg

A Graphing Calculator is strongly encouraged. Don’t grade as much homework as in previous courses since these are the students who will move on to Calculus and need to develop independent study habits – do the assigned work because it was assigned not because they will receive a grade Each Quarter the Tests/Quizzes will make up 80% of their grade and the Homework/In-Class work will make up 20% of their grade. Test about every three weeks and the tests are cumulative. 1 st Quarter we will have 2 tests and the Midterm. 2 nd Quarter we will have 3 tests. The Semester grade will be computed using 40% for each Quarter and 20% for the Final Exam.

IB students will have two units - one each semester -to work on independently. Of course they may get assistance during SRT They will have two Portfolio questions – one each semester. They will also have a “practice” question before they do the real thing. They are receiving a half-weighted grade so this extra work is expected and required.
