Science MONDAY, JAN 26 (A DAY) TUESDAY, JAN 27 (B DAY)

Warm Up…  Earthquake energy travels through the Earth as waves.  1. Name the 3 types of waves  2. Put these waves in order from fastest to slowest  3. List 1 fact about each type of wave

Volunteers…  3 types: Primary waves, Secondary waves, Surface waves  Fastest to slowest: primary, secondary, surface  Facts: primary travel through solids and liquids, secondary only travel through solids, and surface cause the most damage

Let’s test our understanding….  Where are most of the world’s earthquakes and volcanoes found?  At plate boundaries….

What are the 3 types of plate boundaries….  Divergent Plate Boundaries  Convergent Plate Boundaries  Transform Plate Boundaries

Ring of Fire Activity Write in Notebook  The Pacific Ring of Fire is an extremely active region:  Contains nearly 90% of the world’s earthquakes  Contains over 450 volcanoes

Video Link “Ring of Fire”  M&list=PLoo5NyZ_BOGcBItMX392KcC74RqMCh5Q m M&list=PLoo5NyZ_BOGcBItMX392KcC74RqMCh5Q m

Remainder of class…  Today you will map 25 of the largest volcanoes found in and around the Pacific Ocean (your points will show the Pacific tectonic plate)

Ring of Fire Activity:  We will go over the directions together now….  Please pay attention  You will be working independently to complete this activity in class  There will be no talking
