IN2P3-KEK BEAST meeting in Strasbourg January 2015 Philip Bambade Laboratoire de l’Accélérateur Linéaire Université Paris 11, Orsay, France

Principal features and information Founded in 2006 by CNRS/IN2P3, CEA/IRFU and KEK to promote French-Japanese cooperation in high energy physics and related areas Renamed “Toshiko Yuasa Laboratory” in 2009 Support for  25 joint projects (topical workshops, visits, transport) GOALS: - exchanges of personnel, including technical staff - initiating and promoting new initiatives & ideas - joint training for junior staff and students Yearly project evaluations and general workshop (France  Japan)  May 2014, in Bordeaux, see  May 2015, in OIST, Okinawa Bottom-up instrument  allows genuine knowledge of partner’s environment, conditions and methods  close collaborative relations Modest but dedicated budgets provided by IN2P3, IRFU and KEK act as incentive and provide useful context and “light” formal framework Benefits  coo-petition, visibility, credibility & basis for other funding

Main topics Energy frontier physics Flavour physics Neutrino and non-accelerators physics Hadron Physics Astroparticle physics Instrumentation R&D for high energy experiments Accelerator R&D for high energy physics GRID computing Application of high energy physics Management Japan: Junji HABA (KEK), director France: Philip BAMBADE (IN2P3), director and Marc BESANÇON (IRFU), co-director Steering committee: Japan: Atsuto SUZUKI/Masumori YAMAUCHI, Yasuhiro OKADA/Katsuo TOKOSHUKU, Shoji HASHIMOTO, Takashi KOBAYASHI, Mitsuhiro YOSHIDA (KEK), Mashiro KUZE (Tokyo Institute of Technology) France: Jacques MARTINO/Ursula BASSLER, Guy WORMSER, Marc WINTER (IN2P3), Philippe CHOMAZ/Anne-Isabelle ETIENVRE, Marco ZITO, Olivier NAPOLY (IRFU)
