WRITER Suzanne Collins is a best-selling writer that create THE HUNGER GAMES series.What's more,she also write THE UDERLAND CHRONICLES( 地下城） series ， which inroduce a mysterous undergrond world to us. In my opinion,she is the USA's JK Rowling.

As punishment for a previous rebellion （叛乱） against the Capitol, one boy and one girl between the ages of 12 and 18 from each district are selected by an annual lottery( 抽签） to participate in the Hunger Games, an event in which the participants or "tributes" （祭品） must fight to the death in an outdoor arena controlled by the Capitol, until only one remains.

The Hunger Games takes place in a nation known as Panem （施惠国）, established in North America after the destruction of the continent's civilization by an unknown event. The nation consists of the wealthy Capitol （国会区） and twelve surrounding, poorer districts united under the Capitol's control. District 12, where the book begins, is located in the coal （煤） -rich region that was formerly known as Appalachia （阿巴拉契亚）

The story follows fatherless 16-year-old Katniss Everdeen, a girl from District 12 who volunteers for the Games in place of her younger sister, Primrose. Also participating from District 12 is Peeta Mellark, a boy who once saved Katniss’s life by giving her bread when she was starving. Katniss Everdeen （凯妮斯 · 艾佛丁） Peeta Mellark （皮塔 · 梅尔拉克）

Katniss Everdeen is the main character.During the game, her acts of defiance against the Capitol in the arena led the people of Panem to view her as the face of the rebellion. She later led the rebellion to victory against the Capitol, ending a 75-year-long oppression( 镇压）.

Peeta is a very kind person and is good with words. He and Katniss play out a romance in the arena( 竞技场） in order to get sponsors （赞助商） (which can save their lives when they are in need) and manage to both become victors by tricking the Gamemakers. Although his feelings are genuine, he is hurt to discover that Katniss's were not entirely. Eventually, Katniss realizes that she is also in love with him, and they have two children.
