Distance (D 0 ) was measured from the limen nasi to the sphenoid ostium. Angle (A 0 ) was measured between D 0 and a line parallel to the horizontal plane. Figure Legend:

From: Surgical Distance to the Sphenoid Ostium: A Comparison of Healthy Patients and Patients With Cystic Fibrosis Arch Otolaryngol Head Neck Surg. 2010;136(5): doi: /archoto Establishing normative data. A, Normative distance (D 0 ) graph. Each point represents the D 0 of a patient with normal sinonasal anatomy. A fourth-degree polynomial was curve-fit to the data points (solid line) with a 95% confidence interval (CI) (dotted lines). The coefficient of determination (R 2 ) for the normative D 0 curve fit was 82%. B, Residuals for the normative D 0 curve fit. Each point represents the D 0 of a patient from the normative D 0 curve fit. Residuals are distributed mostly symmetrically and increase with age. D 0 indicates distance from the limen nasi to the sphenoid ostium. Figure Legend:

Each point represents the A 0 of a patient with normal sinonasal anatomy. No correlation is observed between age and A 0. This was confirmed statistically using Pearson product moment correlation. A 0 indicates the angle between D 0 (distance from the limen nasi to the sphenoid ostium) and a line parallel to the horizontal plane. Figure Legend:

From: Surgical Distance to the Sphenoid Ostium: A Comparison of Healthy Patients and Patients With Cystic Fibrosis Arch Otolaryngol Head Neck Surg. 2010;136(5): doi: /archoto Validation of the normative distance (D 0 ) graph. Data points (solid line) represent D 0 s of 30 new pediatric patients with normal sinonasal anatomy. Data from 1 of 30 patients fell outside of the 95% confidence interval (dotted lines). This patient was a 16-year- old girl who underwent facial computed tomography for orbital trauma. D 0 indicates distance from the limen nasi to the sphenoid ostium. Figure Legend:

From: Surgical Distance to the Sphenoid Ostium: A Comparison of Healthy Patients and Patients With Cystic Fibrosis Arch Otolaryngol Head Neck Surg. 2010;136(5): doi: /archoto Normative distance (D 0 ) graph (without data points) for clinical use. The solid line represents predicted D 0 to the sphenoid ostium, and the dotted lines represent the 95% confidence interval. This graph can be used for healthy patients and for patients with cystic fibrosis. We recommend that surgeons use the 5% confidence interval as a boundary when performing pediatric endoscopic sinus surgery and proceed with caution past this point. To reach the sphenoid ostium, A 0 s of 37.5°in healthy patients and 41.4° in patients with cystic fibrosis should be used. A 0 indicates angle between D 0 (distance from the limen nasi to the sphenoid ostium) and a line parallel to the horizontal plane. Figure Legend:
