Revised Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) and Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs) for New Teacher Orientation

Revised Philosophy for IEP Writing We believe that students’ Individual Education Plans must be written based on discrepancies and areas of concern/needs that have been identified through assessment and data collection.

Revised What We Need To Know….. How to link assessment and IEP How to link competencies (PLOP) and IEP How to write measurable goals and objectives that can be measured and mastered in a year How to monitor and collect data How to tie IEP to TEKS

Revised Conduct/Gather Assessment PLOP Draft prior to ARD IEP Conduct/Gather Assessment Conduct/Gather Assessment IEP Progress Reports Update IEP

Revised Individualized Education Plans (IEP) Goals and objectives should be tied to areas of concern from PLOP. Goals need to be based on a TEKS strand with instructional level, but do not reference a TEKS number. Goals and objectives should be measurable. Goals should be able to be mastered within a year.

Revised Behavior Intervention Plans (BIP) This is a plan to address specific behavioral concerns Begin with a Functional Behavioral Assessment (FBA) Draft BIP is brought to the ARD and finalized in the ARD

Revised Manifestation Determination Review (MDR) What is an MDR? Why do we need an MDR? Who needs to have an MDR conducted? When is an MDR considered? Where is an MDR conducted?

Revised Next Steps….. Upcoming Training –The IEP Writing Process –Advanced IEP Writing –Writing and FBA/BIP Getting Technical Assistance –Diagnostician –Campus staff –District staff
