PHYSICAL EDUCATION Let’s Move, Falcons!!

Course Outline Physical Education contributes to the overall education of middle school students by helping them to lead full and valuable lives through engaging in purposeful physical activities. The emphasis is on developing knowledge, skills and attitudes that allow students to participate actively, responsibly and intelligently in physical activity.

Course Outline… Physical Education and Health in the MYP aims to cultivate a healthy lifestyle for students and therefore advocates activities that are enjoyable and that also contribute to healthy living.

Physical Education also plays a very important role within the MYP as it contributes to the total development of the individual, which includes …… PHYSICAL, INTELLECTUAL, EMOTIONAL and SOCIAL MATURITY. Course Outline

P.E. UNIFORM  Fossum P.E. uniform and gym shoes are required to participate in activities. Students not in full P.E. uniform will not receive full credit for that day.  Dressing room lockers are issued out to each student. You are not allowed to share lockers with anyone else. Students are responsible for keeping

P.E. Uniform (cont’d) their lockers clean and organized.  You are allowed to bring a towel and deodorant to freshen up after a good workout.  Good grooming and proper hygiene is conducive to the preservation of your health.

Non-Participation  Students who have medical problems, which prevent full participation in any part of the P.E. program, must bring a medical excuse from their doctor or the school nurse, which states: Diagnosis (what is the problem?) Extent of physical activity (how much and what are you allowed to do?) Estimated duration of the restriction (how long will you be excused?)

AIMS and OBJECTIVES of Physical Education at Fossum MS The Aims of Physical Education are to enable the student to… Appreciate and understand the value of physical education and its relationship to a healthy, active lifestyle. Work to their optimal level of physical fitness. Become aware of movement as a creative medium connected to communication, expression and aesthetic Appreciation.

Methodology Physical Education is required for a total of, but not limited to, 50 hours for each level in Middle School for MYP. Students are instructed in various strategies, rules and skills, in a variety of different sports, games and fitness plans.
