Project meeting Rome 9 th September 2014 WP 3 Infrastructure technical specifications Stefan Prüller (PLUS)

2 The infrastructure technical specifications outline the results of the comparative testing of tools and procedures detailing the functionalities that the chosen LMS should possess to match the LINKVIT didactic approach. results of a comparative testing of tools and procedures Deliverable no.6

3 A preference for Open Source Learning Management Systems (LMS) great importance to usability aspects, intuitive user management and personalization Support and community: good documentation and user-based support Flexibility: solutions shall be customizable and adaptable to the project requirements Mobile Learning: use of educational content with mobile devices (especially tablets). In this sense LINKVIT could foresee not just the possibility to take courses via mobile web browser but also through dedicated apps E-Learning as a Service (SaaS): LINKVIT will evaluate the use of cloud-based LMS for distribution of content taking advantage of the high scalability, efficiency and cost optimization of this kind of service supporting standards such as SCORM and compatibility with popular authoring tools. Integration of different resources to the interaction between tutors/trainees like forums, chats or integrated web conferencing. Innovative formats: Together with ppt and pdf, LINKVIT will give preference to multimedia formats (video and webinars). Deliverable no.6

4 The evaluation of LMS is based on technical reports and the practical experience of using Blackboard 9.1, Moodle 2.0 and Google applications in the context of UNIGIS. D.6 methodology Open SourceCommercial  Moodle  ILIAS  ATutor  Sakai  Blackboard  CourseDirector

5 The evaluation of selected Learning Management Systems is performed with Sagitec, a free resource to measure the strength of different tools. The table-based comparison forms the basis of this task, adapted to the Linkvit purposes D.6 evaluation

6 D.6 analysis I

7 D.6 analysis II

8 D.6 analysis III The overall comparison shows that the basic functions are well covered by all of the evaluated LMS. The cost-effective CourseDirector platform presents as a lightweight system with a limited scope of functions. In addition to the features available in the different platforms, the rating of usability, costs, support, flexibility and interoperability describe important key parameters regarding to the decision-making process.

9 D.6 conclusion  Select Moodle as the core LMS for the LINKVIT project Moodle (Modular Object-Oriented Dynamic Learning Environment) is a learning platform used in over 200 countries in the world which enables the participants to distribute content via the internet. Moodle has the advantage being supported by a huge community, ensuring regular updates and offering additional functions based on an open-source solution.

Project meeting Rome 9 th September 2014 WP 3 Adaptation of training material Stefan Prüller (PLUS)

Project meeting Rome 9 th September 2014 WP 3 Training framework first release Stefan Prüller (PLUS)

21 This task consists in the integration of all the components of the LINKVIT Training Framework in order to access, with a user-friendly interface, the various modules according to predefined or customised Learning paths. The Training Framework will be then exposed and publicly offered as a Portal for trainees and tutors of training actions, who will find clear information about the LINKVIT training package, scheduled training actions, and the access (after registration) to the set of modules planned for them. Task 3.3

22 Training Framework first release It represents the outcome of the project which integrates and assembles the eLearning platform, the training material organised in modules and the suggested Learning Paths. The aim is to deliver the LINKVIT training offer into one single product. It will be available on-line and the gateway to access it will be the LINKVIT Web Portal. The Training Framework integrates the learning paths and related metadata with the accessibility to available training material into a context of distributed eLearning platforms. D 7
