CERRO COSO’S ENGINEERING PROGRAM For the working student: Many of our Math Classes can be taken online or onsite. All of our Engineering classes are offered at night. The Physics Series starting Spring 2014 will be at night.

WHAT TYPE OF STUDENT ARE YOU?  New Student : You have never taken a college course.  Returning to Cerro Coso or credit from other colleges  Student with an associate degree  Student with a bachelors and/or masters degree Regardless of what type of student you are you can pursue our Engineering program!

WHAT TYPE OF STUDENT ARE YOU? Special Situations:  Non Resident – not been a resident of the state of California for a year and a day.  Active duty military and their dependents are treated as California Residents

HOW TO BECOME A CERRO COSO STUDENT Complete the following:  Admissions Application  Placement Test  Orientation  Meet with a counselor

ADMISSIONS APPLICATION Apply Online  Registration Periods  Summer- mid-April  Fall- mid-April  Spring- mid-November

Required to register for English and Math  The placement test is NOT a pass or fail test.  Students can only take the placement exam one time.  Students may prepare for the placement exam by going to PLACEMENT TESTING

 High school transcripts can be used for math placement if the math courses were completed within the last two years with grades of “B” or better.  Transcripts from other colleges may be used to place students in English and math courses OTHER OPTIONS FOR PLACEMENT

MATH PREPARATION DETAILS Calculus 1 is the Math level needed to start the Cerro Coso Engineering Program. If you are not ready for Calculus 1, the preparation courses are MATH C141 (College Algebra) MATH C142 (Trigonometry)

If you are not ready for College level Math, you may need to take some more remedial courses. MATH C020 (Basic Arithmetic Skills) MATH C040 (Pre-Algebra) MATH C050 (Elementary Algebra) MATH C055 (Intermediate Algebra) MATH PREPARATION DETAILS

ORIENTATION Orientation is recommended for new students AND a requirement for priority registration. Orientation will provide incoming students with: a guided tour of the campus  an overview of campus and online resources  an introduction to the Learning Resource Center/Tutoring  meet the counseling staff  a review of student leadership, clubs, and campus activities

COUNSELING Counseling is available to all students before and during enrollment at Cerro Coso

STUDENT EDUCATION PLAN A Student Educational Plan (SEP): develop a plan to complete your degree and/or major requirements in a timely manner help you stay focused avoid taking unnecessary classes Required for priority registration, and if you get financial aid

COST OF PROGRAM Student Enrollment Fee Currently enrollment fees are set by the state for $46.00 per unit. Non-Resident Tuition Non-resident students will be charged $266 per unit. Enrollment fees are due within 10 days of registration. Costs above does not include books, this can be a major expense.

 EOPS-for students with financial need and special educational challenges.  DSPS-for physically, psychologically, and learning disabled, vocational and private rehabilitation clients, as well as economically and academically disadvantaged students.  CARE- additional services for EOPS students who fit into the category of single parent, head of household, and are a cash aid recipient. WHAT IS FINANCIAL AID?  Financial aid consists of funds awarded to students to help meet the cost of educational expenses.  Funds may be used to pay for tuition, books and living expenses.
