 When we talk about food, le/la/les (definite articles) mean “the” o J’aimerais la tartine  I would like the bread with bread/jam.  When we talk about food, un/une/des (indefinite articles) mean “a” or “an” (or all of a plural thing) o J’aimerais une banane  I would like a banana.  However, sometimes you don’t want to eat ALL of something! This is when we use the partitive. o J’aimerais la confiture  I would like the jam o J’aimerais de la confiture  I would like some jam
