We Need 5 Volunteers!

 Different ways of thinking and approaching a problem  There is no ONE right way  There is no ONE definition of leadership  Leaders come in ALL shapes and sizes  You must ALWAYS think outside the box (literally) … Just because you may be the quiet one who doesn’t speak up much, does not mean you aren’t just as good of a leader as the fearless outgoing person and visa versa!

Kouzes and Posner 5 Practices of Leadership

Create standards of excellence Forge the path Set an example Must be clear about one's guiding principles and core values *Remember, your actions are under the scrutiny of your followers The Tim Tebow of chicks

Inspired a Shared Vision Believe you can make a difference Be passionate Leaders enlist others in their dreams Create and end vision that excites the team and encourages hard work to get there Dream about an exciting future! Reach for the stars!

Challenge the Process Leaders search for opportunities to change the status quo Be innovative Take risks You look not for necessarily what could be different but what could be done better.

Enable Others to Act Never put your ideas above others Encourage others to contribute their ideas Discover strengths of members and assign tasks based on strengths Build trust and facilitate relationships Make it and comfortable and safe environment

Reward efforts Celebrate accomplishments Make people feel valued It feels good when people notice you, so repay the favor and encourage someone else “it only takes a moment to make a difference”

Break up into 5 groups On your sheet of paper write examples of your assigned practice in your -Past leadership experiences (When have you modeled the way?) -Current leadership activities (How do you encourage the heart?) -Or if there is a certain role model or leader that has employed one of these practices, TELL US ABOUT THEM -Or if one of them stands out from a book or movie you have seen (Will Smith in the pursuit of happiness challenges the process) One for each practice of leadership

GROUP PRESENTATIONS Share 2 of best examples your group came up with

Get out there and make a difference!
