History the first evidence of human presence on the territory of contemporary Brno dates back to prehistoric times the first written mention dates from 1091 (Cosmas chronicle) Stránská skála - important place where was founded traces of settlement from the Old Stone Age the direct predecessor of the city is Slavic settlement Old Castle first evidences of Slavic settlement originate from 5th – 7th century
