EDTC Brain Mind Teaching and Learning Midterm - March 1, 2016 Jamie Wolek Heritage Middle School Introduction to Probability

Target Audience Heritage Middle School 7 th Grade Mathematics Group of students 2-3 day lesson

Objectives Determine and count the outcomes of an experiment. Calculate simple probability. Compare theoretical and experimental probability. Use experimental probability too make predictions.

Big Ideas An experiment can have a variety of outcomes. Predictions can be made based on a uniform probability model, or on experimental probability. Uniform probability model is based on all outcomes being equally likely. As the number of trials increases, experimental probability approaches theoretical probability.

Essential Questions How can you determine the number of possible outcomes in an experiment? What is the likelihood that an event will occur? How can you use relative frequencies to find probability?

Evaluation & Assessment Student completion of online activities. Student discussion and participation in activities. Accuracy of student predictions. Game design at end of lesson.
