OUR COUNTRY

OUR EDUCATIONAL SYSTEM Education in Greece is compulsory for all children from 6 – 15 years old; namely, it includes Primary School (Dimotiko) and Lower-Secondary School (Gymnasio) and Upper-Secondary School(Lykeio). Attendance at Primary Education (Dimotiko) lasts for six years. Our educational system is consisted of two school types: Genika Lykeia (General Upper – Secondary Schools) and the Technical Vocational Educational Schools (T.E.E). The duration of studies in Genika Lykeia (G.L.) is three years and two years (A’ level ) or three years (B’ level) in the Technical Vocational Educational Schools (T.E.E.).

OUR SCHOOL Our school, the 9th General Upper-Secondary School (Lyceum) is located in the historical centre of Athens, in Thissio area. Within a walking distance, you reach the Holly Hill of Acropolis, where the Parthenon, the Temple dedicated to the Goddess Athena - the patron saint of the city itself - is found. Except for this, all most interesting antiquities found in Athens are close by our school.

OUR SCHOOL’S HISTORY Our school is one of the first schools constructed in Athens. It is a historical school, since its archives go back to the 19th century, in 1886, when it used to be a boys’ school (9th Gymnasium). At that time and for decades, it operated as an Experimental school..

OUR SCHOOL Until 1972, their premises were at a central square of Athens, at the new-classical style house of a great Greek poet, Andrea Empirikos and were one of the first houses where electricity was installed. In 1972, during the dictatorship, it was transferred at the today’s location and a new girls’ school was founded there as well.

OUR SCHOOL Nowadays, after new changes in Education System by the Ministry of Education, at these premises 9th Lower Secondary School (Gymnasium) and our School (Lyceum) operate together

OUR SCHOOL Today, our school is trying to be consistent with the new calls from future and to comply with the new challenges and innovative ideas the EU demands. That’s why we have been always involved in educational exchanges with students and teachers from all over Europe, from Asia (through ASEF), in-service training, cultural and environmental programs etc.

OUR SCHOOL An informal tradition, which has been created for decades, to sustain the morals of both students and teachers at a high level and also to increase the quality of teaching methods, gives our school – even today - a special glamour.
