Lymph October 1 Most Happy Category “S” words Presenting... an antigen!

These are the primary lymphoid organs.

What are the bone marrow and thymus?

Not to be confused with Langerhan’s cells, these cells capture pathogens and present them to B cells in lymph nodes

What are follicular dendritic cells?

B and T cells enter lymph nodes through these.

What are high endothelial venules?

This cells transports antigens from the lumen of the small intestine into the underlying tissue.

What are M cells?

The T cell region of the spleen is called this.

What is the periarteriolar lymphocyte sheath? (or PALS)

On October 1, 1890, Congress created this national park home to many of our countries giant sequoia trees.

What is Yosemite National Park?

On October 1, 1962, Ed McMahon introduced this host of the Tonight Show for the first time.

Who is Johnny Carson?

On October 1, 1971, this amusement park opened in Orlando, FL.

What is Disney World?

On October 1, 1903, the first World Series was played and took place in this city.

What is Boston?

On October 1, 1924 this future 39 th president was born.

Who is Jimmy Carter?

Genes that encode human MHC molecules are called this.

What is HLA?

This class of MHC is paired with β 2 - microglobulin.

What is Class I MHC?

This protein transports peptides across the endoplasmic reticulum so they may be displayed on class I MHC.

What is TAP?

This is the name of the set of MHC alleles present on each chromosome.

What is a haplotype?

This protein occupies the binding cleft of class II MHC molecules while in the endoplasmic reticulum.

What is the invariant chain?

Organs such as lymph nodes and Peyer’s patches are this type of lymphoid organ.

What are secondary lymphoid organs?

This disease results from the complete absence of T cells.

What is SCIDs?

This condition is a whole body inflammatory state that occurs in response to a pathogen

What is sepsis? (or SIRS)

Manifestations of this disease, include a red rash on the cheeks, arthritis and CRF.

What is SLE?

MHC restriction allows this to happen.

What is self tolerance?

The response of T cells to protein antigens require the capture and display by this type of cell.

What is an APC?

The TCR complex is comprised of these.

What is CD3 and the TCR?

It is an activating, accessory molecule of T cells that binds to CD80/CD86 on APC’s

What is CD28?

Less than 5% of T cells in circulation have this type of receptor.

What is a γδ T cell receptor?

If a bacterial pathogen is presented by an APC to a T cell, that T cell may differentiate into a Th1 cell and predominately secrete this cytokine.

What is IFNγ?
