Philippians Class Schedule

Phil 3:12-16 The call of God in Christ Jesus #2 12 Not that I have already obtained it or have already become perfect, but I press on so that I may lay hold of that for which also I was laid hold of by Christ Jesus. 13 Brethren, I do not regard myself as having laid hold of it yet; but one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and reaching forward to what lies ahead, 14 I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus. 15 Let us therefore, as many as are perfect, have this attitude; and if in anything you have a different attitude, God will reveal that also to you; 16 however, let us keep living by that same standard to which we have attained

14 I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus. I press on - diōkō - to put to flight, pursue, to go after with the desire of obtaining - present/indicative/active compare with v:12 toward - kata – down, bearing down upon the goal - skopos - denotes a mark on which to fix the eye i.e. the mark at the end of a race see Heb 12:2, Act 6:15, 2 Cor 4:18 What is the goal (or mark) ?

14 I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus. the prize – brabeion - a prize bestowed in connection with the games - akin to brabeus, "an umpire," and brabeuō, "to decide, arbitrate or rule“ - see 1 Cor 9:24 upward (high) - ano - above, in a higher place; with the article it means "that which is above” call - klēsis - is always used in the NT of that "calling" the origin, nature and destiny of which are heavenly (the idea of invitation being implied) – see Heb 3:1 of God in Christ Jesus What is the prize and when is the prize given ?

15 Let us therefore, as many as are perfect, have this attitude; and if in anything you have a different attitude, God will reveal that also to you; subject - as many as are (would be) perfect verb/direct object – let us therefore/have this attitude lit: let us think/this perfect - teleios- meaning full age, adulthood, full-grown, of persons, meaning full-grown in mind and understanding see 1 Cor 2:6, 1 Cor 14:20, Eph 4:13 let us therefore - phroneō - to think, to be minded in a certain way lit: be thus minded (present/subjunctive/active) see Phil 1:7,Phil 2:2, Phil 2:5

15 Let us therefore, as many as are perfect, have this attitude; and if in anything you have a different attitude, God will reveal that also to you; if in anything you have a different attitude or if in anything you think different if – assumed to be true you think - phroneō - to think, to be minded in a certain way lit: be thus minded (present/indicative/active) different - heterōs - differently minded and if, as is the case, in anything you are differently minded, (Wuest)

15 Let us therefore, as many as are perfect, have this attitude; and if in anything you have a different attitude, God will reveal that also to you; God will reveal that also to you will reveal - apokalyptō - to uncover, unveil (apo - from, kalyptō - to cover) - to make manifest or reveal a thing previously secret or unknown (future/indicative/active) see Rom 8:18, Gal 3:23, Eph 3:5 that also to you or this to you see 1 John 2:27

16 however, let us keep living by that same standard to which we have attained however – nevertheless – only one thing let us keep living by that same standard (rule) lit: we are to follow by the same rule to follow - stoicheō - a row, signifies "to walk in line," and is used metaphorically of "walking" in relation to others see Gal 3:16 let us keep our lives in the same path (Wuest) to which we have attained attained – to arrive at, to reach ; see Rom 9:31 so far as we have come (Wuest)

3:14 I am right now continuing to press on without hesitation or letup, looking with constant attention toward the person of Christ for the prize of the upward call of God in the heavenlies, when this life is completed at His declaration, which upward call to me as the victor I have by reason of my being in Christ Jesus, which will bring me to a place of being rewarded by Christ and being fully conformed to Him – only at that victorious moment will my condition be permanently conformed to the position I already have in Christ. 3:15 Let us therefore, as the character of those who are approaching spiritual maturity, have this mindset, involving all of the mind, and settled perspectives and values; and if in any regarding any one of you has a mindset that is not in line with what I have written above, He will bring you to a place of personally understanding these essential truths that I have just now written down. 3:16 however, let us as believers in Christ continue along together in an orderly and consistent manner in our condition, as is fitting to the eternal position that we already have now in Christ.
