 A successful learning experience will require the commitment from Student – Parent – Teacher. StudentParentTeacher

 Provide a safe learning environment  Teach the curriculum  Support student interests  Encourage and motivate students  Prepare students for third grade

 Do Their Best  Work Hard  Be Honest  Take Responsibility for Themselves o Practice Self Control & Self Reliance

 Read & sign the agenda each night  Initial the nightly reading log  Discuss behavior calendar and initial each day  Provide support for at home assignments  Discuss how to practice self control & be self reliant  Discuss how to be a positive role model in class

 Daily behavior is tracked using the behavior calendar.  Students will: Draw a design for showing Rocket Respect each day.  Teacher will: Write a note if a student had difficulty during the day.  Parents will be contacted by note, phone, or if a matter needs to be discussed.

 Student desks are arranged in small groups of mixed ability.  Throughout the day students are given tasks to complete that promote student led discussion, encouragement, and support.  Kagan activities: Round Robin; Rally Robin; and Numbered Heads Together

 Guided Reading Program o Students will meet in small groups based on STAR and DRA reading levels. o STAR information will be included on interims. o Focus will be to improve fluency and/or comprehension skills. o Students are expected to read at home nightly to improve reading. (Don’t forget to sign the reading log!!)

Writing: o Encourage your child to write at home o Students are encouraged to sound out words o Assist with writing in a complete sentence, using capitalization and correct punctuation.  Words Their Way Spelling o Students grouped by spelling strategy level o Parent support is needed for all assignments

 Math: o Students will receive primary instruction from the Math Connects program. o Math Investigations will be utilized to supplement instruction when appropriate. o Reflex Math improves fluency skills. o If you do not have access to Reflex Math at home, please sign up to receive a set of addition and subtraction flashcards.

 Full House: An Invitation to Fractions by Dayle Ann Dodds  Discuss and model fractions  Rich vocabulary: cozy, delight, charmed, scrumptious, plumped, astonishing  Discussion: characters, setting, problem, solution

Social Studies/Science:  Units change every 2 – 3 weeks  Unit letter sent the first day of each unit  Flashcards sent the last week of the unit o Use them to discuss concepts – it is not only about memorization.  Helpful Hints o Review facts from unit letter and all instructional materials each day.
