What is Barrier Island? Barrier Island Environmental Education Program Held at St. Christopher Camp and Conference Center on Seabrook Island – 25 miles south of Charleston, S.C. 300 acres of maritime forest, salt marsh, and mile of beachfront Sleep in cabins 8-9 students, 1-2 adults
Goals of the Program To introduce students, teachers, and chaperones to various ecological concepts such as habitats, adaptations, behaviors, communities and conservation To help children overcome fears associated with the outdoors by teaching them how to better understand nature and to recognize that we are part of it To spark students’ interest in science through the use of hands-on, experiential learning

Student Cost $235 to be paid in 3 installments 1 st Payment: $50 – Friday, October 30 th (Letter of Intent, Permission Slips & NON-REFUNDABLE Deposit Due) 2 nd Payment: $50 – Friday, November 13 th 3 rd Payment: $50 – Friday, December 18 th 4 th Payment: $50 – Friday, January 15 th 5 th Payment: $35 – Friday, February 19 th Checks can be made payable to: Colleton County Middle School For – Barrier Island Field Trip (Parents are welcomed to pay the entire balance at any time)
Parent Chaperones $100 to be paid no later than Friday, January 15th Checks can be made payable to: Colleton County Middle School For – Barrier Island Field Trip Parents must also complete the CCSD volunteer application and pay $16.95 for a SLED background check.

Click the link on the homepage and it will take you to this page where you will then select the blue hyperlink. Lastly, the link will take you to this page and simply follow the prompts. Be prepared to pay $16.95 to complete your background check.
