Provincia di Reggio Emilia6 6 Relevance of foreign citizens on resident population in provinces of Emilia-Romagna Regions and in Italy Since 2008 Reggio Emilia is not longer the first Province in Emilia-Romagna Region for the presence of foreign citizens compared to resident population, the first one now is Piacenza. At national level, at the end of 2010, the Province of Reggio Emilia is at fourth placement (it was at third) following Brescia, Prato (13,6%) Piacenza (13,4%), and followed by Mantova, Modena, Parma, Milano, Treviso e Verona (first 10 positions). Between 2006 and 2007 it is registered a relevant change in presence of IE citizens on the total population figure, due either to increasing of presences, either to UE enlargement to 2 new member States: Romania and Bulgaria. This enlargement made possible a change in status of citizens coming from 2 states already resident in our Province since 2007: from not-communitarian citizens they became citizens of European Union.

First 10 nationalities the most represented are in total 74,8% on the total of resident foreign population: 3 nationalities coming from African continent (23,3%), 3 from Asia (24%), 3 from east Europe (20,6%) and 1, the Romania, which is from EU (6,9%). The distribution of age for not-communitarian citizens has two peaks: first years of life and range between from 25 to 44 years. European citizens are years old. This data highlights the diversity performed in the structure for age between immigrants, mainly young people, and Italians where adults are more and more.
