The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award at Long Road Sixth Form College Information for participants, parents and carers. The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award at Long Road Sixth Form College Information for participants, parents and carers. GOLD

You achieve an Award by completing a personal programme of activities in five sections: Volunteering: undertaking service to individuals or the community Physical: improving in an area of sport, dance or fitness activities Skills: developing practical and social skills and personal interests Expedition: planning, training for and completion of an adventurous journey in the UK or abroad At Gold level, you must do an additional Residential section, which involves working and staying away from home doing a shared activity

Kasia Volunteering (12 months): National Trust in Reach; helping with the upkeep of the park. Skill (12 months): Body art and design. Physical (6 months): Dance classes, hip hop style. Based in Ely Residential: Assisted at an activities centre for a week in Norfolk. Academic Profile: Physical Education Art (sculpture & painting) English Lang & Lit

Year 1 (2015/16) Begin the volunteering, skill and physical sections. Attend weekly sessions for support/guidance, eDofe training, training and preparation for the expedition section. Two canoe skills training days, March. Practice Expedition (3 days/2 nights) April. Assessed Expedition (4 days/3 nights) July.

Year 2 (2016/17) Organise and complete a residential activity (most participants do this over the summer holidays). Continuation of the volunteering, skill and physical sections. Finish each section with a completed assessors report. Keep up to date with information on eDofE.

How much will it cost? £360 The enrolment and administration fee Two years of guidance and support (weekly sessions in year 1) Canoe skills training (2 days) Practice expedition (4 days/3 nights) Assessed expedition (5 days/4 nights) Campsite fees, canoe & paddle hire, instructors, supervisors, assessors, all transport and insurance.
