G-10 CPA March 2016 Bill Sands
Design Criteria Structure must support the CPA panels and Field Cage Differential contractions must be identified and compensated for Movement of the cryostat must be accounted for CPA panel must be kept as planer as possible Assembly should be simple enough be done in the cryostat
This is a six column CPA as suggested by Dan Wenman to compensate for roof deflections of the cryostat each column can move slightly independently. This is a dual panel CPA design with two 1/8” panels supported by 3 X ¾” ribs
Overall Dimensions
To compensate for the differential CTE in the material longer pieces such as panels and ribs will be cut out in the same direction.
Main Hanger Horizontal Bracket Vertical Bracket
The horizontal brackets have a 1” spacer so the plates are not tightly compressed to the panel allowing movement but keeping the panel planer. Vertical brackets need not move so they are screwed directly to the ribs
The main hanger is fabricated from G-10 the upper triangular portion is ¼” thick. We may want review if this is necessary or if a single support would do.
Main Horizontal support tube the G-10 tube is 2.5” diameter with a ¼” wall and the stainless steel inner reinforcement tube is 2” diameter with 1/8” wall
SS Reinforcement Tube G-10 Tube SS Panel Hanger
Panel hanger slides into the slots in the G-10 and stainless tubing and fits to the ID od the SS reinforcement tube.
Main Hanger Pin
Main Hanger Stainless Pin
Main Support Ribs
To get the length needed for the vertical tubes we can get some epoxy that is good in cryo temperatures and slip fit and pin them to length
Elbow Connections Screw placement needs to be determined the vertical G-10 tubes basically see no load the load is carried by the support ribs
Weldment to end reinforcement tubes to fit to the 2.5” stainless elbow
Pivoting HV Donut
HV Horizontal Extension to be welded to Donut HV Pivot Feature HV Pivot Securing Plug and Screw Arm Securing Screw HV Tee
Conclusion It is my opinion with some tweaking this is a viable design for the CPA
