Christ Baptist Church Fall 2015 / Spring 2016

After all this had happened, Paul decided to go to Jerusalem, passing through Macedonia and Achaia. “After I have been there,” he said, “I must visit Rome also.” Acts 19:21

Multiple uses of the pronoun “we” not used since Acts 19:18 Why is this significant? What are the positive & negative aspects of the journey? Why was the sailing now more dangerous? V7 The Fast referred to is the Day of Atonement, which took place on the 10th day of the 7th month of the Jewish calendar - the fall of the year. Why do you think sailing might be dangerous after this time?

What problems arose and what did the crew do to try to alleviate them? Were their efforts successful? Which words in the passage support your answer? Who continued to have hope? Why? How did Paul encourage the others? What advise did he give? On what other occasions had Paul been directly encouraged by God? Acts 18:8-10; 22:17-18; 23:11 6.The decision in 27:12 was difficult, & the centurion chose wrongly. How do you go about making decisions?

How long had they been battling the storm? Who tried to escape from the ship? How did Paul help prevent their escape? Why was it necessary that the sailors stay on the ship?

What did Paul encourage all his shipmates to do? Why? What encouraging promise did Paul make? How did Paul further encourage the men to eat? What example did Paul set that you can follow every day? How many people were encouraged by Paul’s words & actions? (V36,37)

When day broke, what did they see? Did they recognize the place? What was their plan for reaching shore? What did they do to implement the plan and what foiled it? What other danger faced Paul at this point? Who saved Paul? How? How many made it safely to shore? How had Paul's prediction in verse 22 come true?

On what island did the shipwrecked men find refuge? How did the natives of the island show hospitality? What happened when Paul tried to help stoke the fire? How did the natives react? How does vs 6 compare & contrast to Acts 14:8-19?

How long did Paul stay on Malta? Why was the shipwrecked group finally able to leave? What two things encouraged Paul as he traveled inland and finally arrived in Rome? In Romans 1:1-15 what are reasons Paul had desired to go to Rome?

Who did Paul call together for a meeting and for what reason? Give the main points of Paul’s explanation for being a prisoner in Rome. What was the hope of Israel (Acts 28: 20) Paul referred to? Acts 5:30-31, Acts 23:6, Acts 24:14-15 Did the Jews in Rome have preconceived prejudice against Paul?

What was Paul’s subject when he spoke to the Jews? How did he support and confirm his message? How was their reaction similar to that of the Jews in other cities where Paul had preached? What did the Isaiah (v26-27) passage prophesy about the Jews? What purpose did the unbelief of the Jews serve in God’s plan? Also see Romans 11:11-15

1.How did Paul act as: Councilor? Helper? Preacher? 2.What did these roles teach about Christianity to those Paul was with? 3.What did Paul’s behavior throughout the storm reveal about his faith? 4.How can a person sustain his or her faith in times of trouble? 5.How easy is it for you to set a good example during a crisis, as Paul did?

6.What do these chapters in Acts tell us about God’s revelation, will, presence and power? 9.At what point in Paul’s life does the book of Acts end? Why there? 10.Why did Luke writ the book of acts? How has it helped your growth?
